Porridge with Caramelised Pears

Porridge used to be just a sachet of Quaker Oats – now it is a chance to get inventive and experiment a little bit. We’ve tested versions of coconut porridge, carrot cake porridge, and avocado porridge. Porridge offers a world of options, which we love to explore. It obviously pairs brilliantly with peanut butter, which is just another reason to love oats! 

Our latest porridge adventure involves peanut butter (well of course!) and caramelised pears. 

How do you like your porridge?

Ingredients

• 1 1/2 cup of milk (of your choice)

• pinch of salt

•  1 tbsp ManiLife peanut butter (or to your liking)

• 3/4 cup oats

• 1 tbsp flax powder

• 1 pear

• 1 tbsp honey or 2 tbsp brown sugar

• pinch of cinnamon

• 1 tbsp coconut oil

• optional: handful of dried cranberries

Method

  1. Start your oats by heating up 1.5 cups milk in a small saucepan. Once boiling add your oats. Swirl to coat then cover and turn heat to low. Cook for 15 minutes or until the milk is absorbed and the oats are tender. Stir in the peanut butter and flax.
  2. In the meantime, prepare your pears. Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add coconut oil or butter. Once hot, add brown sugar or honey and stir. Then immediately add in pears and cinnamon and stir to coat. Cover to steam and soften the pears and cook for 10 or so minutes or until tender and golden brown. Once tender, remove the lid to allow them to caramelise a bit more. Remove from heat.
  3. Divide oats between two bowls and top with equal servings of pears. 

That's a tasty, nutritious and quick to make breakfast!
