GENERAL

What does ManiLife mean?

Mani means peanut or groundnut in Latin American, where we source all our peanuts from. And life because we're all about making people happy and we believe our products to be life-changingly-lip-smackingly delicious!

PRODUCTS

Are your products gluten free?

Yes! All of our products are gluten free. Our peanut butters are made with peanuts and a wee pinch of sea salt. However they are made in a site that handles gluten and other allergens.

Are your products suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yes! All our products are completely vegan and vegetarian friendly. Our peanut butters are made with peanuts and wee pinch of sea salt.

What’s special about hi-oleic peanuts?

We've been told over and over again that fats are bad. Well this isn't always true! The fat found in hi-oleic peanuts known as Oleic Acid, is a monounsaturated fatty acid which is considered a 'good' plant-based fat. This means hi-oleic peanuts are similar to olive oil and avocados in that the contents of monounsaturated fat can actually contribute to a healthy cholesterol.

And just so you know the fat in our peanut butter sticks around: 81% mono-unsaturated, 5% poly-unsaturated, 14% saturated 0% trans. Boom

Why don’t you make other nut butters?

Because the people behind the product are as important to us as the product itself. In short, we don’t know any almond or cashew farmer but we do know a couple of really really great peanut farmers!

Are your products organic?

We work really closely with our farmers to ensure they follow the best practices to sustainably produce what we believe to be the world’s finest peanuts! Given the Argentine climate it is pretty difficult to efficiently grow organic peanuts there, but it is something that we are working on.

Our farm follows the organic processes as closely as possible and is doing everything they can to limit the need for pesticides, including rotating crops every few years to improve soil conditions and increase efficiency without the need for fertiliser.

What’s the shelf life?

All our products have a 365 day shelf life from date of production. Our aim is that products reach the customer with at least 6 month shelf life remaining. The product will be safe to consume anytime during this period (and probably long after too, but that’s up to you)!. We recommend consuming within 3 months of opening. Shouldn't be too difficult!

Over time separation of the oil may occur, but this can be stirred back into the paste to restore the original texture – the longer it’s left the longer you need to stir it but we promise it will go back.

What makes your products so runny?

2 reasons for this:

  1. We don’t add palm oil. Peanuts are naturally oily and unnatural brands add additional oils, such as Palm Oil, which act as a stabiliser by hydrogenating and the peanut butter. This solidifies the peanut butter which ensures that the oils separate from the paste, but it makes the product much firmer. As we don’t add any such oils over time the naturally occurring oils in the peanut butter can surface to the top. Give it a good stir and it’ll go back to

  1. We blend in small batches. We started ManíLife making 4,000 jars one jar at a time. Properly. small. batches. Whilst our batches aren't quite that small anymore, we've maintained the same principles and pride ourselves as being one of if not the only majorly distributed peanut butter brand in the UK that produces in small batches. Essentially this means we get more air through the product which gives it that extra creaminess. This approach is what makes the indulgently creamy, thick peanut butter you don’t get with in line production.

PACKAGING

Why are you in plastic?

We get asked this all the time and we are currently in the process of making the switch back to glass. It’s taking slightly longer than we’d hoped but it is very much on the horizon! The original move away from glass came because Stu could no longer sterilise the glass jars we were buying in his mother’s dishwasher.

We also always endeavour to use as little packaging as possible and to ensure what packaging we do use is totally recyclable.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes our packaging is completely recyclable. Please contact your local authority to understand what can be recycled in your area. If your local authority does not recycle this material at the roadside then you should be able to dispose of plastic products at many UK supermarket banks and refuse centres.

Nonetheless, we are currently in the process of making the switch back to glass. It’s taking slightly longer than we’d hoped but it is very much on the horizon!
